Guide

Connect a website at your own host

Your website stays with your current host. EasyWeb AI connects securely via SSH or SFTP and only transfers the changes when publishing.

  1. Find the access details at your host

    • In your host’s administration (customer area or control panel), open the “SSH”, “SFTP” or “FTP access” section.
    • Note down: server address, port (usually 22), username and the folder of your website (often “httpdocs”, “public_html” or “www”).
    • With some hosts, SSH has to be switched on first.
  2. Store a key (recommended)

    • In EasyWeb AI, choose “Generate key” and copy the key shown.
    • Paste it at your host in the “SSH keys” section and save.
    • Alternatively, the password of the SSH access also works.
  3. Test connection

    • In EasyWeb AI, click “Test connection”. EasyWeb AI shows how many files it finds and whether the home page (index.html) is among them.
    • If EasyWeb AI reports “not responding”: if your host only allows SSH from certain addresses, have the IP address from the message approved at your host.
  4. Set up website

    • “Set up website” imports your existing website. From now on, you change it via chat – it is published directly to your host.

Good to know

  • If someone changes something directly at the host, EasyWeb AI notices before publishing and asks, rather than overwriting it.
